Whitewater Rafting

A short drive from Canaan Valley, Blackwater Outdoor Adventures offers some incredible water sports for all skill levels. Whether you want the thrill-seeking adventures of whitewater rafting on the Cheat or Tygart Rivers or a sedate trip in either a canoe or inner tube, BOA can outfit you for the right trip.

New this year is stand up paddle boarding on the flat water of the Cheat!
Shuttle service is offered for self-guided canoe trips and tubing adventures. Reservations are recommended by calling 304.478.3775
Check out the Blackwater Outdoor adventures website for more information.

Adventures for Children

There are plenty of activities for children in and near Timberline Resort. Take the family for a self- guided nature walk on the top of our mountain and visit with some "wildlife" in our bike shop. Fishing, swimming and guided nature walks abound in the area. Several miniature golf courses are in the valley and there are two underground caverns a short drive away. There are several petting zoos, an Adventure Cave and Gemstone Mining nearby.

There are tons of things to do in Tucker County!

With two state parks, a national wildlife refuge, art galleries, golf courses and special events – there is an endless list of things to do in Tucker County. Use Timberline Resort as your "home base" while exploring the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area, shopping in Davis and Thomas, or taking part in one of the many festivals in the area. The Tucker County Convention and Visitors Center website has links to all the many things to do in Tucker County.

Seneca Rocks - Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center

Both of these sites are a 45 minute drive from Timberline. Seneca Rocks is a premier climbing destination, but also has a hiking trail and horseback riding trips to the top. Their Discovery Center is a great place to learn about the Monongalia Forest and a restored 19th property.

"Explore a new level of thrill!" at Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center! With North America's premier Via Ferrata and a 3.5 hour canopy tour, you can catch breath taking views and experience some breath taking adventures.

Or just do nothing but relax.

While there are plenty of adventures to be had in the area, another option is to just relax while you are at Timberline Resort. Timbers Inn, our slope side hotel, offers all the amenities you need to 'kick back' after a day of high adventure. Vacation homes and condominiums are another option where you can relax on the deck with good friends or a good book. Many homes feature hot tubs, decks and fireplaces for those cool, summer evenings. There's no need to cook with the Fireside Grill located at Timberline's base lodge and most weekends there is live entertainment at Timbers Pub.
